Junior Cricket Club Member Wins League Award

Jessica Webb, a member of Woodford’s Junior Cricket Club, has won this year’s  John Gregory award from South Northants Junior Cricket League

Jessica Webb with her award, presented by Alan Wilson for South Northants Junior Cricket League.

Jessica Webb with her award, presented by Alan Wilson for South Northants Junior Cricket League.

The John Gregory Award goes to a player from a club in the South Northants Junior Cricket League who the league committee consider has helped promote cricket at their club.

Jessica was nominated by the Woodford club and won the award as she demonstrated her willingness to help with the setting up and packing away of equipment and always attending training sessions and matches. Jessica was up against 3 other highly recommended nominations but won the award as she went that bit further as she took on and mentored a younger girl throughout last season, showing her techniques for batting, bowling and fielding correctly (with no need for advice from coaches) and always encouraging her during practice and at matches.

Jessica received the John Gregory shield (John Gregory was a founder of the league), a shield to keep and £50 of sports vouchers.

The club hopes this will encourage more youngsters to take up the game especially as they have recently acquired an artificial wicket and bowling machine to help develop skills. Who knows, maybe we have a future England star whether male or female?

Su Davies, External Funding Manager at East Northamptonshire Council, will be present on the day to guide visitors to funders who can help their projects. Funders attending the event will include:

  • The Big (Community) Lottery
  • The Heritage Lottery
  • Comic Relief
  • BBC Children in Need

South Northants League Finals : 20th July

Woodford Halse Cricket Club will stage the Finals of the South Northants Cricket League Division 1 and 2 Cup to be played on Sunday 20th July.

The actual finalists are as yet to be decided, but we do know one of them will Croughton CC who managed to beat Woodford in the semi-final in a very high scoring game, thanks mainly to a stunning knock of 90 by one of their players.

The first game starts at 1.45pm and the second is scheduled for 5pm. A BBQ and raffle etc will be available, and of course the Bar will be open all day! If the weather is kind and if last year is anything to go by – a great day is in store!

One word of advice – don’t park in the car park next to the pitch or your car will be in the six hit zone! There will be signs up to remind you, and there is plenty of other parking available on the field or at the side of the 5-a-side court.
