How Your Council Works

The Parish Council is part of the framework of Local Government that includes Daventry District Council and Northamptonshire County Council and is responsible for Woodford Halse, Hinton and West Farndon.

The Council has spelled out its strategy for the coming 5 years here.

Meetings of the Council are usually held in the Memorial Hall. Members of the public are always welcome to attend. You can find copies of the Agenda for each forthcoming meeting here:  Parish Council Meeting Agendas. to see if there’s anything that concerns you due for discussion. We also publish a record of each meeting in Parish Council Minutes.

You can find out more about how the different parts of local government work together  (West Northamptonshire Council combines the functions of the Districty and County Council as a Unitary Authority) and you can reach the sites for:

About Parish Councillors

Your Councillors are elected by you.

The Council consists of up to 14 Councillors who serve for a term of four years. Councillors are volunteers who may receive some expenses but are otherwise unpaid.

Vacancies on the council are filled either by election, or if insufficient candidates put themselves forward to make this necessary, by co-option (i.e. the Council invites willing individuals to fill the vacancies). (See here for more details on elections)

Individuals wishing to register an interest in becoming a Councillor are invited to contact the Parish Clerk (see below).

Each year the Council members elect a Chair and a Vice Chair to manage meetings.

A list of Councillors and how to reach them is also included on  our “Council Members” page and the areas that they look after are on our “Who Does What?” page.
