Memorial Glade Benches

The Woodland Management Committee recognises the benefit and amenity provided by benches within the woodland, and welcomes enquiries from residents who would like to donate a bench in memory of a loved one to be sited within the memorial glade.

Applying for a Bench

Applications to donate a bench must be made in writing to the Parish Clerk, Gary Smith, The Retreat, High Street, Woodford Halse, NN11 3RQ or to

Woodford-cum-Membris Parish Council will arrange the supply and installation of approved benches.

Donated benches will become the property of Woodford-cum-Membris Parish Council, who will undertake all necessary maintenance.

The fee for a bench will include the price of any memorial plaque on it and the costs for installation at a suitable location within the Memorial Glade.

Plaques on Benches

Wording on plaques installed on benches must be approved by the Parish Council.

Only one plaque can be fixed to a bench.

A plaque will be:

  • Made of stainless steel.
  • 63 x 152 mm in size (approx. 2.5 x 6 inches).
    Have an inscription of no more than five lines with a maximum of 36 characters per line (including spaces).
  • The inscription may include the name of the deceased with dates of birth and death along with a short memorial.

Plaques dedicated to pets are not allowed.

The location of benches within the Memorial Glade will be at the discretion of the Woodland Management Committee.

There is limited space within the Memorial Glade so only a maximum of four benches can be sited within the Glade. The Woodland Management Committee will consider written applications for benches to be placed elsewhere in the Woodland but reserves the right to refuse such requests.
